Occasionally we will get questions that need answers, and sometimes they are Questions Asked Frequently, so here are the Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Rom?
A Rom can mean many things, but for the purpose of this site, a Rom is the data of a game which has been taken from it's original video game cartridge. So basically a Rom is a digital version of a game based on any of these game systems: Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Turbo Graphx, Nintendo 64, etc. So it's not just like a simple video game you can have on an iphone.

Like a phsyical game cartridge, a Rom needs something to be played on, this is where emulators come in...

What is an Emulator than?
An Emulator is a program which usually many people work together on coding which allows you to play Rom's. You NEED an Emulator to play Roms. So if you have a Super Nintendo Rom, you better find a Super Nintendo Emulator to play it.

Most Emulators have many options and usually have controller support, game saving, game cheating, etc. Not all emulators play all Roms and not all emulators play Roms at full speed either. If your rom doesn't work on a certain emulator, try out another emulator. Here on Get-Your-Rom, we offer only the best Emulators to be used to play your Roms.

It is recommended that you have an extracting program such as WinRar (PC) or StuffIt (Mac) and the proper emulator in order to play roms on your specific computer.

The file I downloaded I can't open because it's a .rar file?
You will need a special program to extract that file to get the contents out that are inside of it. Most of our files will be in a .zip format but some will be in a .rar file and others will be in .dmg, which is Mac based.

WinRar is one of the best program for extracting .rar files. Also note that some emulators will play roms even if they are in a .zip or .rar file. And before anyone asks, putting files into .zip or .rar files is a way to compress and make the file smaller.

StuffIt on the otherhand is for Macintosh which has the ability to expand .rar files (which are PC based) and other files such as .dmg and .zip.

What are these (U) and (!) and (J) after same of these games?
They determine the quality of the rom and it's language. ! means it's a good quality rom, U means it's United States, J means it's Japanese and E means it's European. Sometimes they will be all 3 which will look like this (JUE) or like this (J)(U)(E). You may also see other stuff similar to this.

How many roms can I download from your site?
As many as you'd like, but please take note of our disclaimers. Also, the Roms download at very high speeds, it's common to see them download at a rate of up to 400 KB per a second!

How many people work on this site?
Just 2, david (me) and sean. We've put a ton of hard work and dedication into this site to offer the world of gamers the best rom site ever to hit the World Wide Web!
